Getting started
BookTick runs entirely on your Apple Watch; there is no iPhone app. Open a shelf such as Most Popular or Quick Reads, or search by title or author, pick a book and tap Get Book. It downloads in a few seconds and opens. Turn the Digital Crown to read. Tap the list button in the corner to jump to a chapter or change the text size and style.
Every book is included in the price. There are no subscriptions or in-app purchases.
Offline reading
Once a book is downloaded it lives on your watch, so you can read with no connection at all. Your place is saved automatically. Downloading a new book needs Wi-Fi, cellular, or your iPhone nearby.
Goals and streaks
Read for your daily goal (5 minutes to start; change it on the Reading screen) to keep your streak going. Today doesn't break your streak until the day is over. Reading time only counts while the screen is on and you are scrolling, so leaving a book open doesn't add minutes. Words read count when you read forward; jumping to a chapter doesn't count.
About the books
BookTick's library is over 11,000 of the most-read classics that are in the public domain in the United States, with texts from Project Gutenberg. Public domain rules differ between countries, which is why BookTick is currently offered in the United States. Quick Reads are books you can finish in about an hour or less. Reading times are estimates.
These are older books, and some reflect the attitudes and language of their time.
Troubleshooting
A book won't download
Check that your watch is on Wi-Fi or cellular, or that your iPhone is nearby, then try again.
A book opens partway in
The first time you open a book, BookTick skips title pages and prefaces and starts at the first chapter. Use the list button and choose Beginning to read from the very start.
Some formatting looks odd
Old books come in many layouts. If a book reads badly on your watch, email us its title and we'll take a look.
How do I free up space?
Open a downloaded book's page and tap Remove Download, or swipe left on it in My Books.
