A standing HIIT workout on Apple Vision Pro: inside Smash Hit XR

Most workouts ask you to stare at a screen. Smash Hit XR puts the targets in the room with you. Using Apple Vision Pro's hand tracking, you punch, reach and lunge to smash balls floating in your real space, with no controllers. It has two modes, built for different kinds of workout.
HIIT: a coached class in one spot
HIIT is a class you do standing in place, so it works in a small room. Each exercise, such as side lunges, squats, twists and woodchops, lasts 20 seconds. Before every move you get a short recovery with a demo, so you know what is coming. Classes run about 10 or 15 minutes.
The balls tell you what to do:
- Pink is your left hand.
- Blue is your right hand.
- White is both hands together.
Solid balls are the ones to hit now, and clear balls show where the next ones will be. Each exercise moves at your pace: the next ball lights up when you hit the current one.
Chase: move around your room
Chase is the faster, more game-like mode. Waves of floating balls appear around you, and you move through your space to smash them before the timer runs out. Play a timed round, or endless mode with three lives. A live scoreboard tracks waves, streaks and score.
Setting up your space
- For HIIT, clear about a meter (3 feet) on every side of you, and leave room to reach overhead. Side lunges go wide.
- For Chase, set the ring on the floor to the size of your clear space, from 1 to 4 meters.
- Move furniture, pets and anything breakable out of the way, and play in a well lit room so hand tracking works well.
Targets in HIIT are placed from your eye height when the class starts, so stand up straight and look ahead when you press Start Class.
