Privacy Policy
Hatchling: Dino Habit Buddy for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, by Flying Tofu Productions, LLC.
Hatchling has no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and we never sell or share your information. Your pal, meals and habits live on your devices. If you sign in, they are also stored in your Hatchling account so they sync and are backed up. Plus meal reading sends the words you said about a meal to our server and to Anthropic's Claude to read them.
What stays on your devices

Your iPhone and Apple Watch pass these to each other directly so they stay in step.
Your Hatchling account (optional)
If you sign in with Apple, we receive an account ID from Apple and, if you choose to share it, your email address (which can be Apple's private relay address). Everything in the list above is then stored in your account on our servers (hosted by Supabase) so it syncs to your other devices, and we keep backups: one a day for the last 7 days and one a week for about 5 weeks. Only you can read your account's data. We use it only to run Hatchling for you.
Reading meals (Hatchling Plus)
When you tell Pip what you ate, the words you said or typed are sent to our server, which passes them to Anthropic's Claude to work out the foods and amounts. Nothing else about you is sent with them, and our server keeps only a count of reads per subscription per day (to keep the service affordable), not what you said. Anthropic processes the text to return the answer under its commercial terms; see the Anthropic privacy policy. If our server can't be reached, Apple's own on-device model reads the meal instead and nothing leaves your device.
Food lookups
To check nutrition numbers, the app searches USDA FoodData Central and Open Food Facts for the foods' names. Those services see the search words and your network address, like any website, and nothing else. Manual food search works the same way.
Apple Health
With your permission, Hatchling saves meals (calories, protein, carbs, fat and fiber), water and mindful minutes to Apple Health, and reads exercise minutes, stand hours, steps, sleep, mindful minutes from other apps, and medication doses you log in Apple's Medications. Hatchling uses these to fill Pip's meters and count your goals. What counts toward a goal (for example, which hours you moved, today's exercise minutes, or a night's rest) is saved with your Hatchling data, so if you sign in it is stored in your account like the rest. Raw Health samples, such as step counts or sleep stages, are not sent to us. Health data is never used for advertising or shared with anyone, except the Dino Derby scores described below.
Dino Derby (optional)
If you start or join a Dino Derby, we store your racing name, your pal's look (its stage and outfit), the races you're in and, for each race day, four scores from 0 to 25 for Body, Mind, Rest and Nourish worked out on your device from your goals. The one friend in your race sees your racing name, your pal and how far your kart has moved. They never see your meals, minutes, weights or any other details. If you report a racing name, we keep the report (who reported whom, in which race) to review it. Blocking someone keeps them out of your races. Leaving a race or deleting your account removes you from it.
Purchases
Hatchling Plus is sold by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles payment and we never see your payment details. To confirm a subscription, the app sends Apple's signed record of it to our server, which checks it with Apple's certificates.
Notifications
Movement nudges and vitamin, med and fasting reminders are scheduled on your device. We don't send push notifications.
Deleting your data
In Hatchling, go to Settings > Account > Delete account. This permanently removes your account, its data and its backups from our servers and revokes Hatchling's Sign in with Apple access. Deleting the app removes the data on that device. You can also email us to ask for deletion.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask to access, correct, export or delete your data by emailing us, and we will answer. We do not sell or share personal information.
Children
Hatchling is for ages 13 and up and asks for a birth year when you start. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Hatchling is for everyday wellness. It isn't medical advice and doesn't diagnose or treat anything. Talk to a doctor or dietitian about your health.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the date at the top of this page will change and the revised policy will be posted here before it takes effect.
